Awarded national park status in 2002, the Cairngorms consists of a huge granite plateau, stretching for over 30 kilometres with much of it over 1,000m above sea level. Bordered by remnants of ancient Caledonian pine forest at Glen More and Rothiemurchus, the Cairngorms is also resplendent with mysterious lochs, great glens and mighty rivers.
